As a part of our awareness building effort on proper health and hygiene as well as in order to ensuring clean safe water, in April and September 2019 we have installed two deep tube wells at Greater Waizerpara, East Bakalia, Chattogram. The localities had been suffering from poor access to safe drinking water for a long time. The installation of both the deep tube wells now allow nearly 480 families (around 2000 people) to have access to safe water for drinking, cooking and any form of household consumption and make their life much easier than before.
Water is Life and Clean Water means Health
Giving access to safe, clean, adequate water to the families in the community is a part of our mission.
Although more than 97% (WHO) of the people of Bangladesh have access to improved water sources, only 35% of households have access to safe drinking water, free from both arsenic and microbial contamination. Each year thousands of people including 50000 children, die of cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid and other waterborne diseases.
There are also gender inequities in water services. 89.6% of women collect water for families(Unicef). They have to fetch water far from home.
People also become victims of water trade. They have no choice but to rent water from the local leaders daily or monthly.
Without clean, safe and adequate water:
- Families and communities are locked in poverty.
- Children drop out of school.
- Parents struggle to make their living.
- Poor sanitation and unhygienic conditions prevail.
- People suffer from many waterborne diseases and die.
It’s time to change that!
We, at Umbrelă, work with the local community to change the situation through our awareness building program ’Right to Safe Water’.
Thus, we ensure safe, clean and adequate water, proper sanitation and hygiene to the communities who need it most and preserve the right to safe water.
In order to keep the community healthy and happy, we
- Install tube wells.
- Run community awareness campaigns
- Give training on proper sanitation and hygiene practices to the underprivileged especially women and children.
- Help reduce the spread of diseases and sicknesses and save lives.
Their right to water is established when we make water accessible for them. Each of them in the community becomes grateful for the blessings they receive by access to safe water.
