Education is the first step to empowerment
Umbrelă aspires to educate children and women and help them discover their true potential. Our aim is to ensure education for every child at Umbrelă in order to build their level of confidence, enhance their self-esteem, develop cognitive skills, make the right decisions in life, make them ready for their future and thus help in the reduction of poverty.
According to data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), Bangladesh has a literacy rate of 72.76% in 2016. Though the literacy rate has increased,
- Many children still have no chance to attend even low-quality primary schools.
- Low attendance, dropout and failure rates are still alarming.
- Low enrolments prevail - particularly of girls.
- Social inequality is yet to be solved.
Falling out of the poverty cycle is a dream of every underprivileged individual and education is the key element of poverty alleviation that can turn this dream into reality.
