Md. Rasel - Today Russell is full of purpose

01 January 2012 (Age: 12)

He was an adorable 8-year-old kid when he first came to Umbrelă. He got lost when he was 4 years old,  at the railway station while waiting for his grandfather, who went to buy food for him. He had two siblings; an elder sister and a younger brother. His father, Kamal, was a rickshaw-puller and his mother, Shahnaz, used to work in a garments factory. Although he still fondly remembers and talks about his parents and siblings, he misses his father the most.

Russell suffered a massive setback when he got disassociated from his family. Initially, the police found him handed to a shelter home. Later, they sent him to Umbrelă with the hope of better care. When we ask Russell how he feels about staying at Umbrelă, his face always brightens up with a big smile, and he says he is so comfortable that he can call it his home.

Now, here are some fun facts about Russell:

  • He started school in January 2020. He had never been to school before.

  • He wants to become a Police Officer.

  • His favorite foods are crisps and cake.

  • He loves playing badminton, cricket and football.

  • He likes to dance and recite poems.

  • He seems to be a responsible kid at his age. However, he thinks that when he grows up, he has to look after all the other kids at Umbrelă.

  • He becomes happy and excited when any visitor comes to see him and others.

  • The best part about him is that he always has a cute smile on his face.
