However, since becoming a part of Umbrelă, there has been a remarkable transformation in her behavior.
Jhuma is from Rangunia, Chittagong where she lived with her mother Nur Nahar, and an elder sister who has been married off. Her father, Abul Hashem had left them after marrying another woman, leaving Nur Nahar to work as a domestic helper to support her children. Additionally, Jhuma had a 22-year-old brother with a psychological disorder, who, prone to violent outbursts when restricted from certain activities, adding further challenges to their family life.
Nur Nahar Begum learned about Umbrelă from her sister and decided to explore the foundation. Impressed by the facilities, resources, and educational support provided, she enrolled in Jhuma on January 2nd, 2023.
Though initially feeling sad about her mother's situation, Jhuma gradually adjusted to the environment at Umbrelă. She was enrolled in a school and began her journey toward transformation. Over time, Jhuma developed a positive attitude towards learning and successfully overcame her previous challenges, finding harmony with her peers instead of engaging in fights. She attributes her progress to her moral education teacher, Borhsa Miss, saying, "Thanks to Borhsa Miss, I've learned valuable lessons about right and wrong." Jhuma is thankful for the opportunity Umbrelă provided to change her life.
Although initially lacking in arts skills, Jhuma has since acquired basic drawing abilities, acknowledging room for improvement in this area. She shared her aspiration to become a doctor to help the sick. While initially unfamiliar with Arabic, Jhuma has made significant progress, enabling her to prioritize and learn the five daily prayers, read the Quran, and memorize some daily supplications. Overall, Jhuma's journey at Umbrelă has been transformative, shaping her character, academic pursuits, and personal aspirations.
