Omar Faruk - From the Street to a Brighter Future: Omar’s Journey

01 January 2012

Omar Faruk’s story is one of resilience, courage, and hope. At just eight years old, he found himself alone in Chittagong after being separated from his family during their move to the refuge camp. With no one to care for him, Omar had to survive on his own. He became a street child, selling betel leaves at the Chittagong Railway Station just to afford a meal each day.

For months, Omar struggled through hardship, but he never gave up. Then, on October 6, 2021, his life took a turn when a group of police officers found him and brought him to Umbrelă Foundation. For the first time in a long while, he found a safe place to stay, food to eat, and people who truly cared for him.

Today, Omar is thriving. He dreams of becoming an engineer and has a special talent for math and problem-solving. He no longer has to worry about survival—he can now focus on his education, his future, and his dreams.

“I am grateful to the Founder of Umbrelă and the Foundation for giving me a second chance at life. With their support, I know I can achieve anything,” says Omar with a smile.

His journey is a testament to the power of kindness, opportunity, and resilience. There are many children like Omar who just need a chance.

This Street Children’s Day, join us in changing lives, one story at a time.
