Suraiya Akter Mim - Embracing Love and Security at Umbrelă

Mim and Mumu have faced tough times when their parents, Rabia Akhter and Md. Belal Hossain, separated and both remarried. They were reluctant to take responsibility for these two lovely girls, leaving the girls in a difficult situation. Their grandmother, at an older age, began working as a maid to support them. However, she had to leave them alone at home while she worked, which she knew wasn't safe. So, she sought someone else to look after them, but it was hard for her to afford. Unfortunately, they weren't safe with the people she found, and they suffered physical abuse, making Mim become quiet and withdrawn. Eventually, their grandmother heard about Umbrelă and decided to bring Mim and Mumu there for safety and a better future.
At this old age, their grandmother started working as a maid to look after them. She had to leave them at home alone while going to work. But she knew it was not safe at all. So she decided to take the children to someone’s care and would pay her accordingly. But it became difficult for her to bear the expenses. Also, they were not safe there as she thought they would be and got abused quite a few times physically. Particularly that has made Mim calm and quiet. One day, the grandmother heard about Umbrelă from the employer and visited there. Then she decided right away to bring Mim and Mumu to Umbrelă home to safeguard and assure their future.
Mim, the elder one, loves to stay at Umbrelă. According to her, “I love to play with my Umbrelă buddies. I enjoy it when Sumiya, Ishiqa and Ayesha apu show their affection and treat me so well. Sometimes they scold me if I do wrong. I feel very excited when our boro ammu(Founder of Umbrelă) sends us the foods and toys we love. I want to live here with all of them.”
