Abiba Akter - Lost but finally found hope

01 January 2013 (Age: 11)

Abiba's life began with tragedy as her father left her and her mentally unstable mother. They lived on the streets, often searching for food from the dustbin. Her mother would beg for food from small restaurants, if that failed, she would collect the food from dustbins.

Abiba said, “Sometimes I would eat and sometimes I would go to sleep hungry in the street because my mom couldn’t find any food for me that day."

One night, while looking for a place to sleep, Abiba decided to spend the night on a rickshaw. However, when she woke up, she found herself in an unfamiliar place, having lost her way. Luckily, the police found her and took her to a shelter. Later, she came to Umbrelă, where she's been cared for. Despite her difficult past, she's now 11, attending school, and dreaming of becoming a doctor. She loves burgers, chocolate, and enjoys drawing. She is also good at studies. Despite her progress, she still misses her mom dearly. With the support she's received, she's thriving, and we're hopeful she'll find her mother again. Thanks to the generous sponsor, Abiba has found hope in her new life.
